Dishwasher Position Summary

The Dishwasher plays a vital role in supporting daily dining and kitchen operations by ensuring that dishes, utensils, cookware, trays, and food service equipment are cleaned, sanitized, and properly stored in accordance with food safety and infection control standards. This position helps maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment by operating dishwashing equipment, handling cleaning chemicals appropriately, and supporting sanitation routines that protect residents, staff, and guests.

In addition to dishwashing responsibilities, the Dishwasher assists with general kitchen support tasks, including trash removal, cleaning kitchen floors and surfaces, restocking supplies, and maintaining dishroom organization. This role works closely with Culinary and Dietary team members to ensure service flows smoothly during meal periods and supports compliance with state regulations, DOH standards, and Community protocols while demonstrating reliability, teamwork, and professionalism.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Prior experience in a kitchen, food service, or sanitation role preferred but not required.
  • Ability to obtain Food Handler certification within the required timeframe (if applicable).
  • Experience working in a healthcare, senior living, or institutional food service environment is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn and follow food safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment and manage repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions related to sanitation, safety, and cleaning procedures.
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts, including weekends, holidays, and evenings as required.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential to support meal service operations.
  • Ability to safely operate dishwashing equipment and use cleaning chemicals according to instructions.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, reach, and lift or carry items such as racks, trays, and supplies.
  • Commitment to maintaining cleanliness, organization, and safety in all work areas.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain a professional attitude at all times.
