About the Role:

The Facility Lifeguard at The Harker School plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals utilizing the aquatic facilities. This position requires constant vigilance and proactive monitoring of pool activities to prevent accidents and respond effectively to emergencies. The lifeguard will also be responsible for enforcing facility rules and regulations to promote a safe and enjoyable environment for all patrons. Additionally, the role involves conducting regular safety checks and maintaining cleanliness in and around the pool area. Ultimately, the Facility Lifeguard contributes to a positive experience for students, staff, and visitors by prioritizing safety and emergency preparedness.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current Lifeguard Certification from a recognized organization (Red Cross, ELLIS, STARGuard).
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications from a recognized organization (Red Cross, ELLIS, STARGuard, AHA).
  • Ability to swim proficiently and demonstrate lifeguarding skills.
  • Must be 18 or older. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working as a lifeguard in a school or community setting.
  • Knowledge of water safety and rescue techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor pool activities to ensure the safety of all swimmers and patrons.
  • Enforce facility rules and regulations to maintain a safe environment.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, providing first aid and CPR as necessary.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and maintain cleanliness in and around the pool area.
  • Assist in organizing and leading swimming lessons and aquatic programs.

Skills:

Swimming proficiency and lifeguarding techniques are essential for daily monitoring of the pool area, ensuring the safety of all patrons using the facilities. Effective communication skills are utilized to enforce rules and provide instructions to swimmers, fostering a respectful and safe environment. First Aid and CPR skills are critical for responding to emergencies, allowing the lifeguard to act quickly and efficiently in high-pressure situations. Organizational skills are essential when planning and leading swimming lessons, ensuring that all activities are conducted safely and effectively. Additionally, interpersonal skills help in building rapport with students and staff, enhancing the overall experience at the facility.
