Job Type: Seasonal with potential for year-round employment (Approx. Nov - Apr), On-Call, Weather-Dependent
Job Summary:
This is a safety-critical, hands-on position responsible for clearing snow and ice from commercial, residential, and public properties during the winter season. Duties include manual shovelling, spreading de-icer/salt, and operating sidewalk clearing equipment. Candidates must have the availability and strength to work long hours, including early morning, morning, daytime, and weekend shifts.
Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Seasonal Snow Removal Laborer, your primary duties will be:
Manual and Mechanical Clearing: Perform strenuous manual labour, including shovelling snow and applying de-icing agents, and operate small mechanical equipment such as snow blowers, sweepers, and ice chippers.
Equipment Management: Conduct routine inspections to ensure all tools and mechanical equipment are in good working order and are properly maintained and secured at the end of each shift.
Safety and Compliance: Consistently adhere to all workplace health and safety procedures (SWP/SJP). Actively participate in Toolbox Meetings, complete necessary safety documentation (e.g., vehicle/equipment inspections, incident/near miss reports), and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Technology Utilization: Use mobile applications (e.g., Aspire, Asset Tiger, Sitedocs) for accurate timekeeping, record-keeping, and safety reporting.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Availability and Reliability: Must possess the flexibility and commitment to work irregular hours and respond quickly and reliably, often on short notice, as dictated by weather conditions. This includes extensive availability for early morning, daytime, and weekend shifts, as well as statutory holidays.
Physical Stamina: Ability to perform strenuous manual labour in all kinds of weather conditions, including lifting to 50 lbs, such as bags of sand, ice melt, etc. Tasks involve bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods while completing manual labour tasks in various weather conditions (Cold, Snowy, and icy)
Transportation: Must have reliable personal transportation to and from our shop located at 20924 100 Ave NW.
Safety Focus: Demonstrated strong commitment to workplace health and safety principles.
Assets:
Prior experience in snow removal or general outdoor labour
A valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean abstract.
Experience driving trucks while hauling trailers.
Work Environment:
Work in an outdoor environment, where the employee will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions, including cold, wind, rain, and snow.
