About this position
Job Summary: Teachers at the International School of Indiana work in a multicultural environment with families, teachers and staff from around the world. Teachers work with a highly collaborative team of grade level colleagues, coordinators and specialists to implement a rigorous Primary Years Programme that is engaging and student-centered. The teacher will teach the English / PYP curriculum and support the growth and development of language learners in the Lower School.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Teach English to a diverse population of learners
- Collect, review and use assessment data to inform teaching, learning and student growth
- Support external assessments and be knowledgeable of NWEA, iLearn and iRead
- Write semi-annual reports detailing student progress and assessing of standards.
- Contribute to school programs and events
- Teach across multiple classrooms when necessary
- Collaborate with colleagues
- Create positive educational climate for students
- Participate in professional development
- Tutor students individually, as needed
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
- Communicate with parents in a positive and timely manner
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability when working in a dynamic environment
Required Skills/Abilities:
- First language/ fluent speaker of English
- International outlook and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Sense of humor
- Able to use and apply technology in the classroom
- Teaching experience in a diverse, multicultural environment
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Experience with the Primary Years Programme
- Recent professional experience with the Science of Reading
- Indiana teaching license (or ability to transfer)
- Experience working with Lower School aged students (age 3-11)
Physical Demands & Activities
This position requires the ability to perform the following physical activities, with varying frequency depending on daily responsibilities:
- Sitting, standing, and walking for prolonged periods
- Moving between classrooms and work areas throughout the day
- Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, twisting, pushing, and pulling as needed
- Reaching above shoulder height and below knee level
- Climbing stairs
- Lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 25 pounds (occasionally more, as required)
- Moving into different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight or confined spaces
- Remaining in a stationary position (standing or sitting) for extended periods
Essential Job Activities
The role regularly involves:
- Moving about to accomplish tasks and transition between worksites or classrooms
- Communicating with students, colleagues, parents, and staff to exchange information
- Repeating motions that may include use of wrists, hands, and fingers (e.g., writing, typing, classroom activities)
- Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned work
The position does not typically require:
- Operating heavy machinery or power tools
- Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment
Environmental Conditions
The work environment may include:
- Indoor classroom settings
- Occasional exposure to noisy environments typical of a school setting
- Occasional outdoor exposure and varying temperatures during school activities
