About this position

Job Summary: 

Barton & Gray is seeking an experienced Paint/Prep Team Member to join our service team in North Stonington, Connecticut. The Paint/Prep Team Member is responsible for cleaning, restoring, and maintaining the appearance of our Hinckley and custom yachts. Responsibilities include all aspects of paint preparation. The Team Member must possess a keen eye for detail, be skilled in various cleaning and polishing techniques, and have a thorough understanding of the materials and surfaces commonly found in boats.

Responsibilities: 

Prepare boats properly for paint including, washing, sanding, taping, masking, etc.

Use of correct products for the compounding, polishing, and waxing of yachts.

Inspect boat surfaces for scratches, dents, or damage, and report any findings to the service team. 

Comply with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials and report any deviations to management immediately.

Maintain a clean and organized work area and dispose of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner. 

Attend production meetings and collaborate with the maintenance team to meet deadlines. 

Maintain a good working relationship with Captains and other support staff. 

Additional duties as assigned by the reporting manager. 


Required Skills & Abilities: 

Valid and unencumbered Driver's License 

Knowledge of various boat materials, surfaces, and cleaning products

Ability to work independently

Must have reliable transportation

Ability to get on and off boats both in the water and on land

Ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions

Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds

Ability to stand for extended periods of time without rest periods


Education and Experience: 

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 

Experience working in a marine service yard where attention to detail and safety were preeminent. 

Essential Job Requirements: 

Must be able to lift 50lbs

Must to able to climb ladders and scaffolding when necessary

Must be able to maneuver about vessels, both on and off the water

Must be able to wear a respirator and other PPE as required

Must be able to kneel, crouch, and reach overhead frequently

Employees will be subject to environments where VOC chemicals (e.g., epoxy, urethane) are present.


Salary Information

$25.0 - $27.0 Hourly Wage
