About the Role:
The Metal & Steel Manufacturing CDL Driver plays a critical role in ensuring the timely and safe transportation of metal and steel products across various locations within the United States. This position requires the driver to operate commercial vehicles in compliance with all federal and state regulations, delivering materials that are essential to manufacturing and construction operations. The driver will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the cargo, ensuring that all loads are properly secured and handled with care to prevent damage. Additionally, the role involves coordinating with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, and customers to optimize delivery schedules and routes. Ultimately, this position supports the supply chain by facilitating the efficient movement of metal and steel products, contributing directly to the company’s operational success and customer satisfaction.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) appropriate for the vehicle class being operated.
- Clean driving record with no recent violations or accidents.
- Ability to pass DOT physical examination and drug screening.
- Experience operating commercial vehicles, preferably in the metal or steel manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations and safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience handling and transporting metal and steel products.
- Familiarity with GPS and route planning software.
- Strong mechanical aptitude for basic vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overnight or extended shifts if required.
Responsibilities:
- Operate commercial motor vehicles safely and efficiently to transport metal and steel products to designated locations.
- Inspect vehicles before and after trips to ensure mechanical soundness and compliance with safety standards.
- Load and unload metal and steel materials, ensuring proper securing of cargo to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, including mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery times, in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, warehouse staff, and customers to coordinate delivery schedules and resolve any issues that arise during transportation.
- Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety protocols.
- Perform routine vehicle maintenance checks and report any mechanical issues promptly to the maintenance team.
