About This Position
The Mechanical Designer III is a senior-level, non-supervisory position responsible for leading complex mechanical design projects from concept through manufacturing while providing mentorship and guidance to entry-level designers. This role works closely with Engineers, Production, Field Service, and third-party vendors to ensure designs meet functional, quality, safety, and compliance standards. The Mechanical Designer III plays a key role in improving operational efficiency, supporting innovation, and contributing to a collaborative, safety-focused engineering culture.
Major Responsibilities
- Utilizes AutoCAD and Inventor drafting software to design and develop infrastructure layouts and diagrams from initial concept to final design.
- Develops and reviews mechanical designs with Engineers and provide equipment drawings of schematics for the purpose of manufacturing.
- Works with Engineers to implement the design and ensure proper operation of final assembly.
- Communicates and resolves design issues with the Engineers, Production team, Field Service Technicians and third party vendors.
- Works with project team to develop project scope and costing, obtaining input from third parties such as component vendors, utilities, construction contractors, and permitting authorities.
- Maintains current inventory of drawings and specifications for individual components and assembly drawings.
- Collaborates with engineers, customers, and contractors to support installation, operation, and maintenance of systems.
- Uses computer-aided drafting equipment, technical handbooks, tables, and other tools to create to-scale drawings of newly designed equipment.
- Interprets and ensures conformance to applicable standards and codes, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Assembles documentation packages and produces drawing sets which are checked by an engineer.
- Reviews completed construction drawings and cost estimates for accuracy and conformity to standards and regulations.
- Explains drawings to production teams and provide adjustments as necessary.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Exhibits strong multi-tasking skill-set to support simultaneous on-going Engineering and company projects.
- Uses expertise to improve operational efficiencies and meet compliance requirements.
- Supports a culture that fosters creativity and uses current technology amongst Engineering team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Associate's degree in Drafting or a related field.
- 3 or more years of drafting experience in a related industry
- Proven collaborator; able to leverage individual strengths to provide value to the entire team.
- Working knowledge of AutoCad and Inventor (preferred).
- Demonstrates a passion and a responsibility for company and product.

- Willingness to travel as required (both domestic and international travel).

- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work overtime, evenings and weekends as required.
- Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment testing (drug test, physical) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing.
Work Environment
- Primarily office based with regular interaction in manufacturing, assembly, and testing environments.
- Exposure to industrial conditions including noise, machinery, dust, and fluctuating temperatures during shop or field support activities.
- May require occasional travel to vendor facilities, job sites, or customer locations.
- Position requires the ability to work safely around heavy equipment and industrial operations.
