About this position

The Ellis School, the only pre-kindergarten to grade 12 independent day school for girls in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a full-time Upper School History Teacher beginning in August 2025. Responsibilities will include teaching five sections of Upper School History and co-advising a group of Upper School students. Other duties, including—but not limited to—proctoring study halls, chaperoning, and committee work are integral to the role of Upper School faculty members.


Qualifications


Undergraduate studies in History or a related field are required. Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 3–5 years of teaching experience and the ability to teach various courses, including World History I, World History II, and advanced electives. The ability to work with students to develop analytical thinking and clear, effective writing is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven ability to work collaboratively and a clear commitment to using innovative pedagogical practices and technology to enhance instruction. Candidates must also have excellent communication skills, demonstrate a strong belief in all-girls education, and possess an enthusiasm for working with and teaching adolescents.
