About the Role:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays a vital role in providing compassionate and direct care to patients at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. This position focuses on supporting patients with their daily living activities, ensuring their comfort, safety, and dignity at all times. The CNA works closely with nursing staff to monitor patient conditions and report any changes promptly. By delivering attentive and personalized care, the CNA contributes significantly to the overall well-being and care of our patients. This role requires a strong commitment to patient advocacy, teamwork, and adherence to healthcare protocols to maintain high standards of care.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in Michigan or completion of a CNA class within the last 2 years.
- Basic knowledge of patient care techniques and infection control standards.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
- Monitor and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure as directed by nursing staff.
- Provide mobility assistance, including helping patients move safely around their environment and repositioning bedridden patients to prevent pressure ulcers.
- Observe and report any changes in patients’ physical or emotional condition to the nursing team promptly.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment by following infection control and safety procedures.
- Support patients emotionally by offering companionship and responding to their needs with empathy and respect.
- Assist with the preparation and serving of meals and ensure patients receive proper nutrition and hydration.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care and participate in patient care planning.
Skills:
The CNA uses strong interpersonal and communication skills daily to interact compassionately with patients and collaborate effectively with healthcare team members. Attention to detail and observational skills are critical for accurately monitoring patient conditions and reporting changes. Physical stamina and dexterity are essential for assisting patients with mobility and personal care tasks safely. Time management and organizational skills help the CNA prioritize duties and maintain a clean, safe environment. Additionally, proficiency with basic healthcare technology and documentation supports accurate record-keeping and compliance with care standards.
