Job Summary: As a Medical Director for the you will provide clinical leadership and oversight to the hospice team members. You will lead the interdisciplinary team in developing care plans, providing high quality clinical care to hospice patients and making patient visits when needed. Additionally, you act as a community resource and liaison to referring partners for patients with hospice or palliative care related needs. As part of the Medical Affairs staff you will be part of a dynamic and experienced team of over 20 physicians and nurse practitioners who all strive to meet our overarching standard of “Every Patient, Every Time”.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight and support to an interdisciplinary team of nurses, home health aides, social workers, chaplains and other team members.
- Be available to provide clinical direction and make care plan changes to the patients on your team.
- Sign prescriptions, death certificates and be an active participant at weekly IDT meetings.
- Attend and be an active participate at monthly staff meetings, medical staff retreats and other activities throughout the year.
- Administrative duties as assigned including the opportunity to lead or participate in pertinent clinical care committees.
- Proactively keep abreast of hospice and palliative care trends, best practices and any anticipated compliance changes.
- Provide visits to patients and families to assess and treat distressing symptoms at end of life, lead family meetings regarding goals of care, and or provide Face to Face visits for purposes of eligibility
- Be available for local consultation for Northstar palliative care nurse practitioners on an as needed basis.
- Participation in On-Call rotation with other hospice physicians.
Work Hours and Benefits: Full time physicians work Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. For this position we are also considering competitive candidates who are desiring 0.8 - 1.0 FTE status. Medical Directors participate in our after hours on call pool on nights and weekends on a rotating basis with the other physicians in the group.

Supervision: The Medical Director will clinically collaborate with the designated Director of Medical Affairs for patient care guidance related to hospice and/or palliative care.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Licensure as Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) in the State of Michigan.
- Strongly prefer Board Certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Alternatively Hospice Medical Director certification would be considered a plus.
- Valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License or controlled substances.
- Recognized performance in maintaining highest standards with regard to good medical practice, ethical behavior and palliative care, including scientific and clinical excellence, demonstrating psychosocial and spiritual knowledge.
