Position Summary

The Senior Director of Accounting Operations will lead the end-to-end operational accounting engine supporting payroll, billing, credit management, corrections governance, and order-to-cash execution within a high-growth, PE-backed healthcare staffing organization.

This role owns operational control architecture across the Salesforce-to-ERP workflow, ensuring payroll accuracy, invoice integrity, SLA discipline, correction reduction, and AR enablement.

This leader will operate at both strategic and operational altitude—designing scalable processes, implementing governance frameworks, and driving measurable performance improvements across onshore and offshore teams.

The Senior Director serves as the enterprise owner of operational accounting risk and performance.

Core Responsibilities

Enterprise Operational Governance

  • Own the operational health of the pay/bill lifecycle (timesheet entry → payroll → invoicing → credit memos → AR enablement).
  • Establish and enforce enterprise SLAs (e.g., 48-hour invoice posting, payroll validation checkpoints).
  • Design and maintain structured KPI dashboards with executive visibility.
  • Drive measurable reduction in correction rates, payroll adjustments, and billing disputes.
  • Provide risk visibility to Finance leadership and executive stakeholders.

Payroll & Billing Oversight

  • Govern payroll processing controls, rate validation, hour classification integrity, and exception management.
  • Ensure billing accuracy and timeliness across locums and permanent placement revenue streams.
  • Implement layered review structures to prevent downstream AR and commission disruption.
  • Oversee payroll adjustment monitoring and systemic issue remediation.

Corrections & Quality Architecture

  • Build and institutionalize a structured corrections governance framework (root cause tracking, aging control, trend analytics).
  • Implement first-pass accuracy targets and quality assurance programs.
  • Reduce manual rework and eliminate repeat error patterns through systemic fixes.

AR Enablement & Revenue Protection

  • Partner with AR leadership to reduce dispute-driven delays.
  • Align operational processes with DSO and cash realization targets.
  • Ensure timely and accurate credit memo issuance and application.
  • Strengthen revenue integrity across operational workflows.

Systems & Data Integration Ownership

  • Serve as functional owner of operational accounting workflows within Salesforce, ERP, and automation tools.
  • Partner with Technology and RevOps to optimize integrations and eliminate data breaks.
  • Drive automation initiatives that reduce manual dependency and improve reporting reliability.
  • Ensure data integrity from upstream entry to financial reporting.

Organizational Leadership

  • Develop bench strength and elevate operational maturity from reactive execution to structured governance.
  • Support long-term scalability through process design and team development.

Cross-Functional Influence

  • Serve as senior escalation point for payroll and billing risk.
  • Influence upstream Sales/Admin processes that impact financial outcomes.
  • Represent Accounting Operations in enterprise system initiatives.
  • Partner with Controller and Finance leadership to ensure clean close cycles and audit readiness.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years progressive experience in accounting operations, O2C leadership, payroll/billing environments, or high-volume professional services/staffing.
  • Experience in healthcare staffing, commission-based revenue, or multi-system CRM/ERP environments strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success stabilizing and scaling complex operational workflows.
  • Strong analytical leadership with deep KPI ownership experience.
  • Experience with multi-layered teams (including offshore).
  • Proven ability to reduce correction rates and improve SLA compliance.

CPA or MBA preferred, but not required for strong operational candidates.
