Senior Commissioning Engineer
The Senior Commissioning Engineer is a hands-on technical leader responsible for planning, developing, and executing commissioning and qualification activities for complex building systems in regulated environments. This role drives project momentum by coordinating with clients, contractors, and project teams; developing and leading test protocols; overseeing FATs/SATs, startups, and field execution; and ensuring compliance with cGMP, CQV, safety, and quality standards. With extensive travel and multi-project responsibilities, the position requires strong technical expertise across MEP and critical systems, proactive leadership, and the ability to mentor team members while delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Technical or Engineering degree preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant experience
  • Must be self-motivated, a go-getter, resourceful, and organized
  • A take-charge personality is needed to push a project along.
  • Must be comfortable in a construction site environment and put safety first.
  • Must be able to develop test protocols utilizing client standards, vendor, and design documentation. Be able to develop test scripts (not just handed a template to re-use).
  • General experience and understanding of cGMP environments, standard industry CQV and regulatory requirements, and good documentation practices
  • Proficient with the MS Office suite of programs (Word, Excel at a minimum)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Project locations vary.
  • Regular travel may be required, with some overnight stays expected.
Commissioning Engineers need to have experience in some or all of these areas:
  • Laboratory Facilities
  • Hospital Facilities
  • HVAC Equipment
  • Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Central Plant Equipment (chilled water, steam, heating, hot water)
  • MEP Building Systems
  • Electrical Distribution Equipment
Job tasks will entail (at a minimum, but not limited to)
  • May require working on multiple projects
  • Daily coordination with the project team
  • Review design documents.
  • Review contractor submittals.
  • Commissioning document development (project plans, test protocols, etc.)
  • Attend and witness FATs and SATs at manufacturer and client sites
  • Perform commissioning execution as required
  • Perform site and equipment inspections, walking down, and verifying drawings
  • Verify contractor testing is being performed as required by specifications
  • Witness equipment startups.
  • Coordinate commissioning execution with the contractors and owners.
  • Organize, lead, and document commissioning testing.
  • Track and resolve issues and deviations with the project team on time.
  • Develop summary reports and turnover packages
  • Lead, train, and mentor other commissioning engineers on the project team.
  • Manage time effectively and efficiently to meet project budget requirements
  • Perform work to meet Genesis and client quality standards
  • Perform all work safely, complying with Genesis and client safety standards
  • Communicate daily with Genesis project managers and department management to report accurate project status, issues or needs.
  • Overnight travel will be required when supporting out-of-town projects (Locations vary primarily between MD, DE, PA, NJ, NY)
