POSITION SUMMARY

Prepares deli food items for sale with a primary focus on fry station operations and dishwashing duties. Supports deli operations by maintaining food quality, cleanliness, and safety standards while providing efficient service to customers.

Requirements:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and cook fried deli items according to established recipes, procedures, and food safety standards.
     
  • Operate fryers safely, including proper oil handling, filtering, and temperature control.
     
  • Prepare hot and cold deli items for display cases and customer orders.
     
  • Ensure hot food items are properly stocked, rotated, and maintained for quality and freshness.
     
  • Assist customers by answering questions regarding deli food items, preparation methods, and handling.
     
  • Bag, wrap, and package customer orders and special requests.
     
  • Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, pans, and food preparation equipment.
     
  • Maintain cleanliness of fry station, prep areas, shelves, cases, coolers, and back-of-house areas.
     
  • Stock, face, and rotate deli items to maintain freshness and proper presentation.
     
  • Stamp, mark, or tag merchandise with correct pricing as needed.
     
  • Monitor product quality and remove outdated or unsellable items; obtain credit for product when applicable.
     
  • Review and maintain accurate pricing structure within the deli department.
     
  • Follow all Island Market procedures, food safety guidelines, and workplace safety standards.
     
  • Perform any and all other assigned tasks.

Job Qualifications / Required Skills / Key Competencies

  • Experience in a deli, kitchen, or similar food-service environment preferred
     
  • Ability to work safely around hot equipment and cleaning chemicals
     
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
     
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
     
  • Attention to cleanliness, food quality, and safety
     
  • Ability to calculate discounts and percentages
     
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
     
  • Good analytical and organizational skills
     
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)
     

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to heat, dust, odors, oil, fumes, moisture, and noise
     
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift objects up to 50 lbs
     
  • Work includes prolonged periods in kitchen and dishwashing areas
