About this position

Summary:

The Resident/Crisis Response Advocate is responsible for the operation of the YWCA York’s Emergency Shelter facility when on duty.  The work involves providing support and presenting options to residents and clients in a trauma-informed manner.   All YWCA York employees are expected to commit themselves to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and mission-aligned workplace culture, in support of the YWCA’s values of eliminating racism and empowering women.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • When on duty:  Responsible for the security of the building, contents of the building, and the well-being of building occupants.  Must hold scheduled fire evacuation drill monthly and orient new residents to evacuation procedures.
  • Conduct intakes, answer the hotline, and perform hospital accompaniments as needed.
  • Provide support services, information, and referrals.  Oversee shelter clients and enforce rules and regulations of YWCA York ACCESS Emergency Shelter.  Case reviews are held at every shift change.
  • Participate in house meetings, staff meetings, and direct service meetings.

 

  • Work with the Director of Residential Services, Residential Coordinator/Case Manager, and/or Residential Coordinator on menu planning, food shopping when necessary, and keeping a running inventory of food and household supplies.
  • Required to lift or move materials of average weight.
  • Keep shelter and all bedrooms clean and ready for clients.
  • Keep up with laundry and making bundles, care bags, and laundry bags.
  • Keep the kitchen and bathroom stocked.
  • Keep store rooms neat and clean, and donations put away.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of the agency’s client materials and files.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalency certificate.

  • Observes safety and security procedures.

YWCA York Requirements

  • Must support the YWCA mission to eliminate racism and empower women
  • Clearances required: PA Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprinting (or waiver affidavit)
  • Completion of Mandated Reporter Training within 90 days of hire

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • This position operates in a professional environment
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods
  • Occasionally may need to lift supplies up to 20 pounds
