Job Description: Job Summary Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient security services to guests, students, faculty, and staff. Must be able to pass any required screening or training. Essential Job Functions
  1. Answer calls coming into the security office, responding as appropriate.
  2. Answer radio traffic and respond to calls for assistance.
  3. Answer routine inquiries by phone or in person.
  4. Secure campus as needed.
  5. Timely communicate situations or potential challenges to the Associate Director of Security or the Director of Security, as appropriate.
  6. Support all staff with parking, set-up processes, traffic control, and pedestrian control as needed.
  7. Performs foot patrol as well as mobile/driving patrol.
  8. Regulate lighting and secure doors, windows, and buildings as needed.
  9. Seek training to enhance and/or learn new skills.
  10. Seek assistance from other Patrol Officers or Supervisors as situations dictate.
  11. Remain calm and personable under pressure.


Required Qualifications: Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and Experience
  1. A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  2. Prior experience or knowledge sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the job successfully is also required.
  3. One or more years of support service and/or Security process experience is desired or a combination of education, training, and experience, that fulfills the needs of the College.
  4. Must be able to obtain a Michigan Concealed Pistol License or currently possess an MI CPL and must be able to demonstrate accuracy and proficiency in the use of a pistol.
  5. Must possess a valid Michigan Driver’s license.


Other Skills:
  1. Knowledge of safety procedures related to hazardous chemicals.
  2. Knowledge of proper safety procedures.
  3. Ability to follow instructions.
  4. Effective communication and customer service skills.
  5. Basic computer skills.
  6. Must be CPR/AED certified.
  7. Knowledge of College facilities, grounds, and scheduling.
  8. Must be punctual and able to meet deadlines.


Physical Demands:
  1. Ability to walk, run, bend, stoop, climb.
  2. Ability to safely lift, push, pull, or otherwise move up to 50 pounds.
  3. Requires average physical strength.
  4. Ability to operate motorized vehicles.
  5. Potential for occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, or other infectious/hazardous materials.
