About This Job:
The Adolescent Support Specialist provides direct care, supervision, and support to adolescents during school and group activities. This role involves acting as a positive role model and reinforcing each adolescent’s individualized treatment plan. The Specialist will facilitate group sessions and conduct therapeutic programming under the supervision of the Clinician and Shift Supervisor. The position requires sensitivity to issues such as mental health concerns, suicidal ideation, and contraband management.

Key Responsibilities and Daily Duties: 
  • Ensure the physical safety of youth and provide crisis intervention as needed. 
  • Conduct routine headcounts and bed checks to confirm youth presence and safety. 
  • Maintain professional boundaries and develop respectful, supportive relationships with youth. 
  • Plan and lead organized daily activities and facilitate therapeutic groups, including Restorative Justice Practices and DBT-Lite. 
  • Interpret program goals and treatment plans to youth and their families. 
  • Complete all required documentation and reports accurately and promptly. 
  • Monitor and ensure safety for youth with physical or emotional needs. 
  • Provide transportation for youth and families as needed. 
  • Maintain and renew Certification in Medication Administration. 
  • Reinforce and role-model individualized youth needs and treatment plans. 
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance. 
  • Prepare youth for school, assist with morning routines, and ensure timely transportation. 
  • Support youth with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and evening routines. 
  • Assist with educational activities and homework. 
  • Engage youth in recreational outings (fishing, walks, YMCA visits, go-karts, movies, laser tag). 
  • Provide care for up to four youth, many of whom are referred by DCF. 
  • Conduct background checks and meet all licensing and safety standards. 
  • Support a trauma-informed, therapeutic group home environment with a low staff-to-youth ratio (1:2 up to 1:4).

Additional Duties: 
  • Support youth in developing life skills and independence. 
  • Transport youth to jobs, activities, and appointments. 
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and organized home environment. 
  • Participate in ongoing training, team meetings, and supervision.

Qualifications: 
  • Experience working with youth, at-risk youth, or court-involved adolescents (Required) 
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Required) 
  • Ability to pass DCF background check upon hire (Required)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation 
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts 

Shift and Compensation: 
  • Full-time, 40 hours/week 
  • Rate of Pay: $20.00 per hour 
  • Shifts include: 
    • Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 12:00 AM – 10:00 AM (10-hour overnight shifts) 
    • Monday and Tuesday, 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Thursday and Friday, 10:00 PM – 10:00 AM (10-hour overnight shifts)
  • Overtime and time-and-a-half pay available
