Summary

The Supervisor for the Portage Glacier Cruise is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Deckhands and Sales Representatives, ensuring exceptional guest service, smooth vessel operations, and adherence to safety protocols. This position plays a key leadership role in maintaining efficiency, resolving guest and staff concerns, and supporting the overall success of the cruise experience. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Portage Glacier Cruise is a Native-owned and operated enterprise and offers Native Preference under P.O. 93-638.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide leadership to Deckhands and Sales Representatives, ensuring all employees perform their duties effectively and professionally.
  • Oversee ticket sales, cash handling, and retail operations to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Monitor vessel operations, assisting the captain and deck crew in ensuring passenger safety and smooth cruise experiences.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings and ensure all staff adhere to U.S. Coast Guard regulations and company policies.
  • Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback to employees, fostering a positive and motivated work environment.
  • Assist with scheduling and shift coordination to ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for guest concerns, handling escalations professionally and ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Support deck operations, including boarding assistance, vessel cleaning, and emergency response as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales, employee performance, safety drills, and operational reports.
  • Assist in inventory management for ticketing, retail, and onboard supplies.
  • Uphold company policies, enforce workplace safety protocols, and promote a culture of respect and teamwork.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including cold, wind, and rain.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Requires agility and balance to navigate a moving vessel safely.
  • Must be available to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in hospitality, business, or maritime-related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in supervision, customer service, maritime operations, or sales required.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of maritime safety regulations and passenger vessel operations preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Comfortable working on the water and following safety protocols.

Salary Information

$22.0 - $22.0 Hourly Wage
