RISK MANAGERDEPARTMENT: Insurance & PropertyManagement, Department of Human Resources SALARY: $105,000LOCATION: Trenton, NJREPORTSTO: Director ofHuman Resources POSITION(S)AVAILABLE: 1OVERVIEW:Underdirection, plans, directs, and coordinates risk and insurance programs intendedto control financial risk, losses, and liability for a county agency; performsrelated duties as required.RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Developsand administers a comprehensive risk management program, including riskidentification, evaluation, mitigation, and monitoring strategies
- Coordinatesthe procurement, renewal, and maintenance of insurance coverage, includingproperty, casualty, liability, workers' compensation, and other lines ofcoverage
- Investigatesand analyzes incidents, accidents, and claims to determine liability,negligence, and the extent of risk exposure
- Recommendsappropriate risk mitigation strategies to reduce potential claims andliabilities
- Reviewsand negotiates insurance claims and settlements with adjusters, attorneys, andthird-party administrators
- Collaborateswith legal counsel, department heads, and external consultants to evaluate riskimplications of contracts and operational decisions
- Overseesthe agency's safety, accident prevention, and loss control initiatives
- Maintainsaccurate records and prepares detailed reports on risk exposures, claimsstatus, incident trends, and loss history
- Trains andadvises staff on risk awareness, safety practices, and regulatory compliance
- Supervisesstaff engaged in risk analysis, insurance administration, and claims management
- Nine (9) yearsof professional experience in one or more of the following areas (at least 2 years must have been in a supervisory capacity):
- Theinvestigation and analysis of insurance claims to determine the extent ofliability and/or negligence
Thecoordination of insurance and risk management activities aimed at protectingthe public, employees, and property and reducing liability exposureSafetyprogram management, accident prevention, and loss control, including analysisand report writingCommercialunderwriting of property and casualty insuranceNegotiationand settlement of property and casualty insurance claims
- Possessionof a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five (5)years of professional experience in any of the areas listed above, including atleast two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
- Stronginterpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interacteffectively with internal departments, legal representatives, insurancecarriers, and external stakeholdersProvenleadership and management abilities, particularly in public sector orregulatory environmentsWorkingknowledge of insurance policies, claims processes, loss analysis, andapplicable state and federal regulationsFamiliaritywith risk financing, contractual risk transfer, and safety program developmentProficiencyin the use of risk management information systems (RMIS) and Microsoft OfficeSuite
- Appointeesmay be required to possess a valid New Jersey driver's license if the operationof a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
