Position Overview:

The Environmental Engineering Intern role is a paid internship designed for currently enrolled Chemical Engineering students seeking hands‑on experience in an industrial and manufacturing environment. This internship is structured as a learning‑focused development opportunity that complements academic coursework by providing real‑world exposure to engineering support activities and industrial safety practices. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals in a regulated, safety‑focused industrial setting. This role is intended to begin in May 2026, working a 40-hour week, Monday through Friday, 8AM-4:30PM at our Baton Rouge plant.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • With training and supervision from experienced laboratory and engineering professionals, you will:
  • Utilize OSI PI, SAP and iProcess software to analyze process conditions and enhance Plant/HSE performance
  • Utilize technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations to improve long-range improvements in Plant/HSE performance
  • Utilize Management of Change (MOC) process to document/update status of changes and ensure communication of same to appropriate personnel
  • Utilize interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with and actively involve plant personnel on projects to improve plant performance
  • Participate in Unit HAZOPS and follow-up action items as required to mitigate risks in the unit from the PHA
  • Maintain Unit Safety File updates relative to the MOC process and procedure.  Assist in maintenance of good PSM standards in the unit
  • Participate in incident investigations and follow-up action items from incidents.  This involves tasks such as chemical leak calculations and engineering corrective actions
  • Provides support to operations personnel to troubleshoot day-to-day activities in the unit, and work closely with the Unit personnel to effectively troubleshoot plant HSE issues
  • Works with other units to ensure plant goals are met safely and effectively
  • Work with contractors and engineers in the unit; be involved in the projects as needed
  • Housekeeping audits, weekly and have operators take care of any issues
  • Be professional and ethical at all times and treat employees, contractors and customers respectfully
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by manager
  • Comply with all plant policies and procedures
  • During the final month of the internship, you will prepare and deliver a presentation to leadership and local HR highlighting the projects you worked on, key skills and learnings, mentors you partnered with, and individuals you shadowed throughout the program


Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s degree program in Chemical Engineering
  • Local to the Baton Rouge, LA area for on-site work 
  • Must be able to attain a TWIC card
  • Strong attention to detail and interest in hands‑on technical work 
  • Strong analytical aptitude with the ability to apply math, logic, and engineering principles to real‑world problems
  • Ability to follow procedures and accurately document work 
  • Basic computer proficiency 
  • Interest in the specialty chemicals or industrial manufacturing industry
