Position Overview
The Assistant Clinical Director supports the Clinical Director in overseeing the delivery of healthcare services to an incarcerated population within a correctional facility. This role assists in ensuring high-quality, compliant, and patient-centered medical care while maintaining alignment with clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and security protocols.
The Assistant Clinical Director provides clinical leadership, operational support, and direct collaboration with medical, nursing, and administrative staff to promote continuity of care, quality improvement, and effective clinical operations in a secure environment.

This role assists in ensuring high-quality, compliant, and patient-centered medical care while maintaining alignment with clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and security protocols.
The Assistant Clinical Director provides clinical leadership, operational support, and direct collaboration with medical, nursing, and administrative staff to promote continuity of care, quality improvement, and effective clinical operations in a secure environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Clinical Director with the oversight and coordination of clinical services for pre-trial and incarcerated populations
- Support supervision, mentoring, and evaluation of clinical staff to ensure quality and appropriate care delivery
- Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinical policies, procedures, and treatment protocols
- Collaborate with providers, nursing leadership, and facility administration to ensure coordinated and efficient healthcare delivery
- Assist in monitoring compliance with applicable clinical standards, accreditation requirements, and regulatory guidelines
- Participate in quality assurance, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), and performance improvement activities
- Assist with audit preparation, inspections, and corrective action planning
- Support infection control initiatives and medication management processes
- Address clinical concerns, patient care issues, and operational challenges as delegated by the Clinical Director
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and support reporting requirements
- Licensed healthcare professional (RN, NP, PA, or other applicable clinical discipline) from an accredited program (required)
- Active, unrestricted license in the state of practice or ability to obtain one (required)
- Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience, preferably in correctional, institutional, or acute care settings
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a healthcare setting (preferred)
- Knowledge of correctional healthcare standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation processes (preferred)
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to successfully pass credentialing, background checks, and security clearance
- Experience working with underserved or high-acuity populations
- Familiarity with CQI, risk management, and performance improvement methodologies
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a secure environment
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and highly regulated setting
