Founded in 2009, DC Greens is a nonprofit organization that advances health equity by building a just and resilient food system. We believe that racial justice, food access, and health equity are all connected, and that change requires systemic solutions and cross-sector collaboration. DC Greens works in solidarity with those who are most impacted to build a just food system in the nation’s capital and break down the systemic barriers that harm our community. We are currently seeking to hire a Development Coordinator. 

This hybrid part-time position will primarily be responsible for supporting the philanthropic activities for DC Greens to ensure annual revenue goals are met. The Development Coordinator must be able to work both independently and in collaboration with DC Greens staff members. This position also requires the ability to articulate DC Greens’ commitment to and emphasis on racial equity throughout all programmatic areas. This position reports to the Development Director and works closely with program staff, as well as the Executive Director.  

You are an ideal candidate if you are an experienced fundraising professional with strong writing/editing skills and highly organized. 

Requirements:

Essential Job Functions:  

Grant Management 

  • Lead the writing, editing, and submission process for grant applications and reports in collaboration with appropriate staff 
  • Collaborate with Development Director and program staff to monitor budgets and ensure we are meeting our financial goals, deadlines and funding needs 

Administrative Support and Management 

  • Maintain DonorPerfect, adding gifts, tracking funding, and sending acknowledgement letters  
  • Support regular financial practices for the department including grant spend down, coding, updating revenue, and budget tracking  

Prospecting, Reporting and Stewardship 

  • In collaboration with the Executive and Development Directors research, cultivate and steward relationships with existing and prospective funders  
  • Stay abreast of funding news and trends in the philanthropic sector 
  • Brief and prepare staff for funder meetings  
  • Support the Development Director’s administrative responsibilities to the Board of Directors 

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications 

  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience grant writing and grant management 
  • A passionate advocate for health equity and food access
  • Experience in nonprofits, fund development, and grants management 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel 
  • Experience using donor management systems  
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a team member with initiative, motivation, flexibility, organization, and attention to accuracy 
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to take ownership of a process and to use problem solving skills to resolve issues 
  • Strong professionalism with the ability to navigate multiple deadlines 
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) 

Team Contributor and Collaborator 

  • Participate actively and respectfully in team meetings, staff meetings, and staff retreats 
  • Contribute to the overall improvement of the organization 
  • Represent the organization externally, including at major fundraising events, in accordance with stated values 
  • Expected to be self-reflective around how power, privilege, and access supports or challenges efforts to center equity 
  • Additional related duties as assigned 

Location

This is a hybrid position. It requires someone to be based in the D.C. region. Frequent collaboration will require in person presence at DC Greens Office (853 New Jersey Ave. Suite 200 Washington DC 20003) and occasional in-person events/donor meetings. 

Compensation & Benefits 

This is a regular, part-time (20 hours per week on average), salaried, exempt position. DC Greens’ salaries are set using a pay equity process tool. This process was implemented by the organization in 2019 and utilizes social justice principles to equitably compensate staff.  The salary range for this position is $38,400- $41,000 commensurate with experience and non-negotiable. A generous benefits package includes medical/dental/vision, disability/life insurance, 15 days of paid time off, paid holidays, parental leave, an employer match on retirement contributions once eligible, and a flexible work schedule.
