About the role

  • The People Operations Manager is an important role Kidspace Children’s Museum. This individual ensures a positive employee experience through both traditional human resources management but also focuses on company culture, staff development, and employee engagement. The People Operations Manager creates policies and practices that engage staff from recruitment to retention, focusing on a culture of learning and excellence to support the mission of the museum.
  • The People Operations Manager reports to the Chief Administrative Officer.

What you'll do

  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding. Evaluate processes and recommend areas for improved impact.
  • Oversee payroll process, provide approval summaries and requested reporting to CEO/CAO
  • Responsible for administration and employee communications regarding compensation and benefits, 403(b) enrollment and education.
  • Develop a comprehensive training and professional development program for employees that fosters professional growth
  • Manage workers’ compensation, state disability and unemployment claims, disputes and investigations
  • Support managers in areas such as employee evaluations, training, promotion, discipline and other HR issues.
  • Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; work with consultants as needed to review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance and be responsive to evolving organizational needs
  • Maintain employee records including job descriptions, employee files, and other documents
  • Administer employment leaves, maintaining communication with staff and supervisor prior to leave and during leave to coordinate return-to-work and any accommodations
  • Maintain professional affiliations/certifications and enhance personal professional growth by staying up to date on trends in people operations management
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources; applies this knowledge to identify strategies for improvement and effectively communicate recommendations for change in policy, practice, and resources to the leadership team
  • Serve as part of the POSM (Proxy On-Site Manager) team which requires occasional weekend on-site presence.

  • All other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in Human Resources Field, with HR management and non-profit experience preferred
  • Experience working with union and non-union staff desired
  • Demonstrated commitment to DEI principles
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy
  • Experience with the Microsoft platform and an ability to learn new software quickly (Rippling HR/Payroll Platform)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related area or equivalent field desired
  • HR certification (SHRM, college) strongly preferred

The pay range for this role is:
70,000 - 80,000 USD per year(Pasadena, CA)
