Quadrant Health Group is seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing (DON) to lead nursing operations at our wellness facility in Des Moines, Iowa.
This leadership role oversees the medical department and nursing staff, ensuring the safe, effective, and compliant delivery of healthcare services in a residential treatment setting. The Director of Nursing partners closely with the Executive Director to ensure high-quality patient care and regulatory excellence.
Position Summary
The Director of Nursing is responsible for overall nursing services, medication management oversight, staff supervision, regulatory compliance, infection control, and medical documentation integrity. This role ensures compliance with:
Iowa Board of Nursing standards
Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (Iowa HHS) licensing requirements
Applicable Iowa Administrative Code for behavioral health and substance use treatment programs
Federal regulations including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2
Accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission or CARF), if applicable
Key Responsibilities
Nursing & Clinical Oversight
Direct and supervise all nursing staff, including RNs and LPNs.
Oversee safe medication management practices including inventory, administration, reconciliation, and disposal.
Ensure accurate and timely nursing documentation in accordance with Iowa regulations and organizational standards.
Conduct and oversee comprehensive patient assessments in collaboration with the Executive Director and Nurse Practitioners.
Monitor detox protocols and psychiatric medication management as applicable.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Maintain compliance with Iowa HHS licensing standards and Iowa Administrative Code requirements.
Lead preparation for and participation in state inspections and accreditation surveys.
Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, and risk management initiatives.
Implement and oversee infection control policies and procedures.
Ensure confidentiality compliance (HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2).
Leadership & Staff Development
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate nursing personnel.
Develop and deliver training to medical and non-medical staff on:
Medication safety
Vital signs monitoring
Symptom recognition
Emergency response procedures
Foster a collaborative, team-oriented treatment environment.
Provide education to clients regarding medications, health maintenance, and preventative care.
Care Coordination
Coordinate with outside providers, laboratories, and pharmacies to ensure continuity of care.
Support crisis intervention and emergency response procedures.
Collaborate with clinical and operations leadership to ensure a full continuum of care.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Iowa.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in behavioral health, detox, medical-surgical, psychiatric, or equivalent settings.
Experience in medical detox or substance use disorder treatment preferred.
Strong working knowledge of Iowa Board of Nursing standards and healthcare regulatory compliance.
Ability to lead, supervise, and mentor nursing staff effectively.
Additional Requirements
Current CPR/BLS certification.
Ability to pass background screening, drug testing, and job-related health screening (including TB clearance) in accordance with Iowa HHS standards.
Valid driver’s license (if transporting clients is required).
Completion of facility orientation and ongoing training requirements.
