Chronicle Books is looking for a Publicity Assistant to join our team! This is an integral role supporting our publicity efforts across our entire publishing program, including Adult, Children’s, Gift, and Games. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about public relations, media, and the publishing industry. Reporting to the Associate Director of Publicity, this role will run point on our gift guide pitching as well as supporting other departmental projects and providing title support as needed.
Key Responsibilities: The Publicity Assistant will assist with administrative tasks (mailings, media research, pulling images), check the general publicity inbox, respond to inquiries, run seasonal catalog and gift guide media campaigns, and respond to all media calls for information. They will create agendas for meetings, discover new media outlets, build and maintain lists in Muck Rack, convert interior images for media requests, assist with press materials, set up media monitoring alerts and create seasonal author event grids. Mailing books and materials, assisting with book tours, working openly and supportively with colleagues in Editorial, Marketing, and Sales, and attending and participating in departmental meetings and other planning sessions as needed will also be part of this job.
Hiring Salary Range: $24.52 – $28.25/hr. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the expected salary for this position and will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, an applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is eligible for our profit share plan.

Schedule: Employees at Chronicle Books will follow a regular hybrid schedule in our San Francisco office of at least three (3) in-office days per week and up to five (5) in-office days per week, depending on project and business needs. Requirements:A successful candidate will be an enthusiastic self-starter with strong organizational and communications skills. They will need excellent copywriting abilities, an interest in books, pop-culture, media, and consumer trends, familiarity with Microsoft 365 services (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. Experience with Adobe Pro, Photoshop, Muck Rack/Cision and/or Salesforce, as well as professional office experience in publishing or media is a plus.
