About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Director of Finance to provide strategic and operational financial leadership for a nonprofit Life Plan Community (CCRC). This role is a key partner to executive leadership, ensuring strong financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability in support of our mission and commitment to high-quality resident care.

What You’ll Do

This role is responsible for recording, reconciling, and reporting on the company's financial transactions: 

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of all financial transactions.
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial statement integrity.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Ensure all financial reporting complies with GAAP, state, and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate and prepare for internal and external audits.
  • Record, monitor and reconcile all liability accounts, including accounts payable, accrued expenses, accrued payroll and related debt, loans and leases, and other financial obligations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure proper classification and disclosures.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements
  • Prepare detailed analyses and reports for internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and regulatory bodies.
  • Analyze trends in all assets, liability, income and expense (ALIE) categories and provide insights and recommendations to management related to operational observations and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize the management of ALIE.
  • Assist in cash flow forecasting and management, focusing on liability related cash outflows and entrance fee related cash inflows
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and company accounting policies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the financial management and accounting functions.
  • Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy in fiscal management.
  • Participate in system upgrades and the improvement and/or implementation of accounting software and tools.
  • Work closely with accounts payable, cash management accountant, and other finance teams to ensure cohesive financial operations.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting processes by coordinating providing liability-related data and insights.
  • Assist in special projects and ad-hoc analyses as required by management.

 

Collaboration & Mission Support

  • Partner closely with operational, clinical, and resident services leaders to support continuity of care and organizational goals.
  • Provide financial guidance to department leaders to promote accountability and cost-effective operations.
  • Foster transparency, shared ownership, and financial literacy across the organization.
  • This position will make periodic travel to affiliate campuses for meetings with on-site management. 

 

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA Required, MBA, MHA, or similar advanced degree, a plus.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience.
  • Background in nonprofit, senior living, healthcare, or other regulated environments strongly preferred.

Skills & Strengths:

  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, budgeting, audits, and internal controls.
  • Ability to balance mission-driven priorities with fiscal responsibility.
  • Strategic, analytical thinker who can translate financial data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Collaborative leader with strong communication skills and the ability to influence across teams.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel skills required).

Salary Information

$160000.0 - $180000.0 Annual Salary
