About this position

FlightHouse Engineering is a small design firm specializing in the design of autonomous aerial vehicles.  We provide engineering services, subject matter expertise, vehicle conceptual design, and strategic guidance to our clients who are developing products in the UAS and UAM markets.  We work with companies of all sizes, and all stages, to help craft innovative and exceptional products.


We’re looking for an Analysis Engineer with strong analytic and design skills, and specific expertise analyzing composite materials and structures.  The candidate should be comfortable with fast paced technical projects, and with developing models and loads from scratch.  We are looking for a motivated problem solver who can communicate clearly and work well in a team.


Responsibilities may include:


Perform static, modal, fatigue, and transient analyses to assess stress, deformation, and durability

Strong ability to perform hand calculations for structural strength, stability, and fatigue analysis; as well as advanced analysis software applications

Detailed metallic part analysis

Conceptual sizing of composite structures

Detailed modeling and analysis of composite structures as well as bonded joints

Work collaboratively with designers and engineers on the design and development of aircraft structures.

Written analysis reports to document your work

Analysis to support structure testing; test plans, test equipment, part performance, test reports, and test data correlation

Development of detailed loads from high level functional requirements

Development of material allowables from published specifications & test data

Manage analysis efforts to cost, schedule, and performance targets

Demonstrate initiative by understanding what actions need to be taken and completing the required tasks while seeking the perspective of others as required.


Job Requirements


Minimum BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Advanced Degrees are a plus

Expertise in analyzing composite materials and structures 

5-10 years experience in a related role

Familiarity with manufacturing techniques; composites molding, machining, 3D printing

Familiarity with aircraft or unmanned aircraft (UAV, UAS, drone) is a strong plus

Position requires occasional domestic travel

Must be a US person.

FEMAP/NX NASTRAN

Composite laminate theory & material allowables development

Hypersizer or other optimization packages

Familiarity with CAD; Solidworks, NX, CATIA

Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, Powerpoint

Matlab or Octave experience a plus

Familiarity with project management tools such as MS Project
