About the Role:

As a Vet Technician at Alamo Dog & Cat Hospital in Alamo, you will play a critical role in supporting veterinarians in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of animal patients. Your work will directly impact the health and well-being of pets by assisting in medical procedures, performing laboratory tests, and providing compassionate care to animals and their owners. You will be responsible for monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, and educating pet owners on post-treatment care and preventive health measures. This position requires a strong commitment to animal welfare, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment. Ultimately, your contributions will ensure that the hospital delivers high-quality veterinary services and fosters a positive experience for both pets and their families.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Veterinary Technician program or equivalent education.
  • Certification or licensure as a Veterinary Technician in the state of Alabama.
  • Experience working in a veterinary clinical setting, preferably with companion animals.
  • Strong understanding of animal anatomy, physiology, and common medical conditions.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and humanely, including those that may be stressed or aggressive.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with anesthesia monitoring and dental prophylaxis procedures.
  • Knowledge of veterinary software systems for medical record keeping and appointment scheduling.
  • Additional certifications such as Fear Free® or specialized training in emergency and critical care.
  • Excellent communication skills for client education and team collaboration.
  • Prior experience in a high-volume veterinary hospital environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and medical procedures by preparing equipment and restraining animals safely.
  • Collect and process laboratory samples such as blood, urine, and tissue for diagnostic testing.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments under the supervision of a veterinarian.
  • Monitor vital signs and overall condition of hospitalized animals, reporting any changes promptly.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and update patient charts with treatment details and observations.
  • Educate pet owners on animal care, nutrition, medication administration, and post-operative instructions.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments, treatment areas, and hospital facilities.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and assist in ordering to maintain adequate stock levels.
