Lenawee Christian Ministries provides Christ-centered education, spiritual development, and wellness services to the Lenawee County community. The ministry is made up of two operating entities—Lenawee Christian School and the Christian Family Centre—both located in Adrian, Michigan.

Position Summary.

 

The Athletic Director (AD) provides visionary, spiritual, and operational leadership for all athletic programs at Lenawee Christian School, including youth (elementary), middle school, and high school athletics. The Athletic Director has full responsibility for athletic program administration, coordination, and execution.

 

The Athletic Director ensures that athletics serve as an extension of the school’s mission—developing student-athletes of character, discipline, and faith—while maintaining compliance with Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) regulations and ACSI accreditation standards. The AD oversees coaches, scheduling, budgets, logistics, communications, and community engagement, and serves as the primary ambassador for LCS athletics.


 

Key Responsibilities.

 

Mission & Spiritual Leadership

  • Articulate, model, and implement the Lenawee Christian School philosophy of athletics, integrating biblical truth and spiritual formation throughout all programs.
  • Ensure athletics promote Christlike character, sportsmanship, integrity, and discipleship.
  • Build mentoring relationships with student-athletes that support their spiritual, academic, and personal growth.

 

Athletic Program Administration

  • Provide comprehensive administration of all LCS athletic programs (elementary through high school). 
  • Interpret, communicate, and ensure compliance with MHSAA rules, regulations, and eligibility requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee athletic policies, procedures, and discipline protocols.
  • Serve as LCS’s official representative to MHSAA, ACSI, and other athletic associations as directed.
  • Maintain accurate athletic records, statistics, eligibility documentation, and program data.

 

Scheduling, Logistics & Game Operations

  • Plan, schedule, and confirm all practices, games, tournaments, officials, and facilities usage.
  • Maintain and publish a comprehensive athletic calendar for coaches, families, and staff.
  • Coordinate transportation logistics, including vehicle readiness and scheduling.
  • Ensure athletic facilities are properly prepared, safe, and event-ready.
  • Oversee game-day operations for all home contests, including supervision, volunteers, ticketing, and concessions.

 

Student Support and School Culture

  • Ensure effective systems are in place to support student academic progress, behavior, and well-being.
  • Promote a safe, orderly, and nurturing learning environment that reflects Christ-centered values.
  • Partner with families to support student growth and success.

 

Budget, Equipment & Financial Oversight

  • Prepare, manage, and monitor the athletic department budget.
  • Approve athletic purchases in alignment with financial policies and budget parameters.
  • Oversee inventory, ordering, distribution, storage, and maintenance of athletic equipment and uniforms.
  • Analyze athletic operations and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Coordinate fundraising, sponsorships, and booster activities in collaboration with Development and Athletic Boosters.

 

Coach Leadership, Supervision & Development

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise all athletic coaches in accordance with HR policies.
  • Ensure all coaches understand and implement LCS’s athletic philosophy and spiritual expectations.
  • Conduct formal coach evaluations, performance reviews, and improvement plans as needed.
  • Lead regular coach meetings, professional development, and training sessions.
  • Support Varsity coaches in supervising and evaluating JV and middle school coaches.


Youth Sports & Community Engagement

  • Oversee and coordinate the LCS Youth Sports program, including coach approval, scheduling, and facilities coordination.
  • Serve as primary liaison with parents, students, coaches, and community partners.
  • Promote athletic opportunities and mission-centered stories through communication and outreach.
  • Represent LCS athletics at community events and functions.

 

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement 

  • Serve as a contributing member of the school’s administrative leadership team.
  • Partner with school leadership, Centre staff, and internal departments to align athletics with broader school goals.
  • Conduct parent and student surveys to assess program effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Use data and feedback to strengthen athletic programming, culture, and outcomes.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in athletic administration or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in athletic administration, preferably in a secondary school setting.
  • Experience working with MHSAA-governed programs required.
  • Coaching experience across multiple sports strongly preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
