Salary Range: $45,000 - $55,000

Position Summary
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for completing maintenance projects at SPA’s Goodrich and Randolph campuses. Daily activities include working independently to perform and complete a variety of building maintenance repairs, assisting other maintenance staff members with grounds, projects, and attending to preventative maintenance repairs. This position also supports the building of sets for theatrical performances
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Attend to projects and work orders assigned by the Facilities Manager or directed by the Goodrich campus Facilities Supervisor. General maintenance projects include, but not limited to:
- Plumbing repairs, including but not limited to sinks, faucets, toilet flush valves, drinking fountains, and kitchen equipment.
- Perform HVAC maintenance and projects.
- Repairs and adjustments of doors and door hardware, including hinges, closures, and exit devices,
- Window and glass repairs/replacement,
- Minor furniture repairs to classroom and office furniture,
- Minor door and lock adjustment and install replacement lock cores. 2.
- Assist with setting up furniture and equipment for events.
- Assist with maintenance activities during special events, such as but not limited to, plays, musicals, concerts, and graduation.
- Assist with seasonal grounds activities such as removal of snow and ice from walks and steps, mowing and trimming of grass, shrubs and planting beds. 5.
- Maintain a safe working environment and follow recommended safety procedures.
- Facilitate effectiveness of the maintenance and operations through good working relationships with faculty and staff members, and students.
- Take initiative to perform work independently and attend to periodic additional duties and responsibilities as requested by other SPA supervisory personnel.
- Meet with MS and US play personnel to design and build sets.
Minimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities satisfactorily, and the qualifications include:
- Required: High school diploma, preferred: A.A. or B.A. degree. 2. Minimum of three (3) years proven experience in general building maintenance, construction, or related field.
- Experience in Small Engine Repair
- Experience in woodworking or carpentry
- Ability to take initiative on both assigned and unassigned work projects and to complete them independently.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Experience and ability to use an iPhone, desktop computer, and software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Possess, or have the ability to obtain, Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
- Valid driver’s license, driving record in good standing; able to operate a manual transmission vehicle.
Other Duties:
- Perform other maintenance and grounds-related duties as assigned.
Physical requirements of the position:
- Ability to stand or walk for an eight (8) hour shift. Standing, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling, bending, crawling, crouching, stooping, and kneeling are required.
- Ability to lift, load and/or carry up to 50 pounds. .
- Good eyesight, including clear distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
Work Environment:
- Duties are normally performed inside campus buildings but during winter months, snow removal requires working outdoors. Duties will require the ability to use a variety of tools, manual and powered, maintenance vehicles, snow removal machines, utility vehicles and other powered equipment.
- The Maintenance Technician is considered “essential personnel” for the Operations department in response to snow removal or building emergencies. In addition, the Technician may be required to fill in for absent colleagues and need to work alternative times. Exposure exists to hazards that are endemic to building maintenance activities and the use of power equipment. These hazards can be potentially dangerous situations including exposure to sharp blades, fluids and physical injury.
