About this position

Midwest Co-op is currently accepting applications for the position of Operator - 2. Under the direction of the Agronomy Location Manager, the Operator – 2 safely operates trucks, custom application equipment, and facility machinery. This role is suited for individuals with a DZ license (or inexperienced AZ) who have foundational skills and are developing advanced competencies in equipment operation, field application, facility operations, load management, and customer service.


The Operator – 2 works with limited supervision, runs most equipment inside and outside the facility, and supports both delivery and field application activities while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, compliance, and professionalism.


SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP

  • Provides on‑the‑job guidance and informal mentorship to team members, back‑up drivers, and seasonal staff. 
  • May occasionally assist with training Operators on equipment operation and safe handling procedures.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

VEHICLE EQUIPMENT & FACILITY OPERATION

  • Operates straight trucks (single/tandem axle) and custom application equipment such as sprayers and dry fertilizer spinners. 
  • Runs facility equipment including forklifts, loaders, payloader, and skid‑steer as needed. 
  • Performs and records required pre‑trip and pre‑operation inspections; follows preventative maintenance schedules. 
  • Maintains clean, safe, and professional‑looking vehicles, equipment, and facility areas. 
  • Practices safe, defensive driving in varying road, weather, and field conditions.

 

PRODUCT HANDLING, MIXING & APPLICATION

  • Loads/unloads feed, fertilizer, crop inputs, hardware, and energy products manually or using lifting devices. 
  • Mixes and blends fertilizer and crop protection products following WHMIS, TDG, pesticide labels, and company procedures. 
  • Performs accurate field application and supports equipment calibration and adjustments. 
  • Weighs tanks and assists with inventory staging, rotation, and product quality checks.

 

WAREHOUSE, YARD & INVENTORY SUPPORT

  • Moves, stores, and rotates products safely and efficiently within the facility. 
  • Verifies incoming goods by checking bills of lading and identifying shortages or damage. 
  • Assists with inventory counts, pre‑listing, and inter‑branch product transfers. 
  • Performs general yard and facility duties including housekeeping, snow removal, and grounds care (mowing, trimming, litter removal).

 

SAFETY COMPLIANCE & DOCUMENTATION

  • Completes all required documentation: bills of lading, shipping tickets, weigh slips, delivery logs, application records, and incoming goods verification. 
  • Ensures all licenses, permits, inspection papers, and regulatory documents are maintained and available. 
  • Complies with MTO, TDG, WHMIS, OHSA, environmental regulations, and all company policies. 
  • Wears required PPE, reports hazards, and follows safe operating and lockout/tagout procedures.


 CUSTOMER SERVICE AND BRANCH SUPPORT

  • Provides courteous, professional service at customer sites and communicates issues promptly. 
  • Supports branch operations including warehouse duties, fertilizer plant operations, and assisting other divisions during peak seasons. 
  • Contributes to strong teamwork, service quality, and inter‑branch collaboration.


 OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS


  • Follow all health and safety requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), including using required protective equipment, following safety procedures, and reporting any potential hazards.
  • Follow all company personnel policies, including expectations related to training, performance, and conduct.
  • Participate in required MCS training such as Ministry of Labour courses, Health & Safety Standards, Policies, and AODA accessibility training.
  • Work cooperatively with approved contractors and follow all related safety procedures when contractors are on site.
  • Maintain any required licenses, certifications, or regulatory requirements needed for your role.
  • Perform other assigned duties as assigned.


 REQUIREMENTS

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent required.
  • Class DZ or AZ driver’s license.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age and have a minimum of 3 years experience with class of driver’s license required. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications such as forklift, WHMIS, and TDG.
  • Strong attention to safety and detail.
  • Customer service focus and willingness to learn new processes.
  • Ability to lift materials within company and regulatory limits.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily works outdoors, in yards, fields, warehouses, or vehicle settings in all weather conditions. 
  • Frequent exposure to dust, fumes, fertilizers, chemicals, agricultural odours, and equipment noise. 
  • Exposure to varied road, field, and weather conditions; loading and mixing may occur outdoors. 
  • Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 kg. 
  • Occasional extended hours may be required during seasonal peak periods.
