Position Overview

The Metrics Analyst will play a key role in assessing the effectiveness of communication and outreach activities across digital, media, and stakeholder engagement channels. This position supports science-focused initiatives by collecting and analyzing performance data, evaluating communication strategies, and providing actionable insights that guide future content and campaign development.

Responsibilities

Data Collection & Analysis

  • Collect, track, and analyze data on events, web campaigns, social media engagement, press coverage, and outreach activities.
  • Identify, compile, and assess performance data across digital platforms to inform decision-making and improve audience reach and engagement.
  • Evaluate communication plans, digital engagement campaigns, products, and projects using performance measures and audience feedback.

Strategic Insight & Evaluation

  • Measure attitudes and behaviors among key audiences, including policymakers, Congress, the public, scientific communities, industry, educators, and media stakeholders.
  • Use data-driven findings to refine communication strategies and strengthen engagement efforts.
  • Analyze digital engagement policies, processes, and procedures, recommending performance measurement goals and best practices.

Reporting & Visualization

  • Prepare clear, data-rich reports, dashboards, and visualizations that highlight key performance indicators, trends, and insights.
  • Draft evaluation summaries and findings for leadership in accessible and actionable formats.

Collaboration & Program Support

  • Provide integrated program support for compiling, analyzing, and reporting the status of campaigns and outreach projects.
  • Work collaboratively with writers, editors, designers, and digital media teams to ensure analytics guide future content and campaign design.
  • Stay current on best practices in digital analytics, media monitoring, metrics development, and performance evaluation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience developing communication strategies and products for science-focused organizations.
  • Experience evaluating and refining communication campaigns using audience feedback and performance measures.
  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience developing metrics for communication plans and analyzing the impact and ROI of outreach activities.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate findings clearly to diverse audiences, including leadership and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal science agencies, research organizations, or mission-driven technical programs.
  • Proficiency with analytics and monitoring tools such as Google Analytics, social media insights platforms, or media tracking systems.
  • Experience using data visualization software such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
  • Background in digital communications, media analysis, evaluation frameworks, or science communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in collaborative, fast-paced environments.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and range between $100,000 - $150,000.
