Position Summary:

Receives direct supervision from Lead Lineman or Lineman.


Essential Duties:

  1. Digs holes, puts down anchors and trim trees.
  2. Assists with assembly and attachment of braces and pins to cross-arms, makes up guys and assists in setting poles.
  3. Uses hand lines in passing tools, equipment and supplies to Apprentice and Journeyman Lineman.
  4. Assists in hanging transformers.
  5. Works as part of ground crew attaching transformers to supports.
  6. Uses ropes, blocks, shovels, wrenches, rules, pliers, connectors and saws while running service lines.
  7. Handles trouble calls during bad weather if necessary.
  8. Performs increasingly difficult and more skilled work approaching Apprentice level as the training period progresses.


Requirements:


Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate.  


  • Should have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.


  • Should have some knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in construction and maintenance of power lines.


  • Should have the ability to learn a wide variety of skilled tasks required in line construction and maintenance work.


  • Should have ability and willingness to acquire skills in climbing poles and working at moderate heights with high tension lines.
  • Should have the ability to learn and observe proper safety precautions, assist in first aid and mouth to mouth resuscitation.


  • Must have a valid Georgia Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License.


  • Must live within a 30 minute driving distance to the Electric Department Operating center.


Physical/Environmental Requirements

The primary work environment of this position is in field, the candidate will be exposed to extreme weather conditions and will be on occasion required to perform manual tasks. These tasks will include but are not limited to the following (lifting, pulling, pushing, climbing and walking over rough terrain).

Salary Information

$20.31 - $24.71 Hourly Wage
