About this position
Description:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the finance and accounting department through accurate recording, analyzing, and reporting of financial transactions. This role ensures timely month-end close, maintains the general ledger, and assists with financial audits, reconciliations, and compliance requirements.
General Accounting
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Support fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process vendor invoices and employee expense reimbursements.
- Ensure proper coding, approvals, and adherence to company policies.
- Assist with customer invoicing, collections efforts, and cash application.
Financial Reporting
- Assist with producing monthly financial statements and variance analysis.
- Prepare supporting schedules for management review.
- Maintain documentation for internal and external audits.
Compliance & Documentation
- Support tax filings (sales tax, 1099s, business licenses, etc.).
- Ensure adherence to GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
- Maintain organized digital and physical accounting files.
Cross-Functional Support
- Work with operations, HR, and leadership to gather financial data.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling as needed.
- Provide ad-hoc analysis and reporting.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred.
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, Oracle, or similar).
Skills
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
