Job Summary
One Step Services, a division of The Dot Corp, is seeking a detail-oriented Junior Production Designer to support our digital print and prepress workflow. This is a production-focused role, not a creative design position. The primary responsibilities include reviewing client-supplied PDFs, running preflight checks, fixing basic file issues, preparing files for print and mailing, and validating job data.
The role requires someone who is highly technology-savvy, comfortable learning new systems quickly, and able to adapt easily to updated workflows and software tools. Our environment evolves frequently, and this position needs someone who enjoys working with technology and is quick to pick up new programs during training.
Key Responsibilities
• Review incoming PDF files for completeness, accuracy, bleed, trim, resolution, and formatting
• Run preflight checks and correct foundational issues in Adobe Acrobat and InDesign
• Prepare press-ready files using internal standards and templates
• Receive, clean, and validate CSV/Excel data (text corrections, special character cleanup, formatting consistency)
• Ensure all files and data meet internal requirements before entering production workflows
• Maintain consistency across similar or recurring jobs
• Move jobs through our internal workflow system and follow naming/organizational standards
• Identify missing information or errors and communicate them promptly
• Support production teams with basic troubleshooting related to files, data, and software
• Adapt to new tools, updated software workflows, and evolving production processes
• Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, especially:
– Adobe Acrobat (preflight, fixes, PDF editing)
– Adobe InDesign (layout corrections, proper output settings)
• Strong comfort working with CSV and Excel files
• High level of technology fluency with the ability to learn new software quickly
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to follow structured SOPs while adapting to workflow updates
• Clear communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
Preferred
• Experience with Enfocus PitStop Pro
• Experience with multi-page layouts, including:
– Creep
– Crossover alignment
– Bleed/trim setup for booklets
– Preparing files for saddle-stitch or perfect-bound formats
• Familiarity with print terminology (bleed, trim, DPI, CMYK safe zones)
• Previous experience in a print or prepress environment
• Experience with production data cleanup tools or automated workflow systems
• Basic troubleshooting instincts for software, file formats, or data issues
