About this position

Reporting directly to the Transportation Manager, the Logistics Specialist will coordinate inbound transportation of finished goods for the US and Canadian sales organizations. This position will play a vital role in the import process for finished goods, working with our customs brokers, global logistics team, warehouse network, and transportation providers. The incumbent will also assist in delivering cost savings & efficiencies, strengthening relationships with our transportation partners, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. This position is based in our Dayton, TN location. Remote/hybrid work with occasional onsite meetings at company offices and vendor locations is acceptable.

Responsibilities:


  • Track & trace all inbound container shipments.
  • Generate and distribute weekly reporting of inbound containers for internal warehouses and customer locations.
  • Recordkeeping for all inbound shipments (customs documentation, receiving checklists, etc.).
  • Record and report all OS&D occurrences for in-scope shipments.
  • Perform tariff classification for new items to be imported.
  • Freight invoice audits to ensure the accuracy of charges and to measure variance from quoted rates.
  • Manage carrier partners to ensure daily execution of all movements, review performance, and develop supply chain improvements based on management's priorities.
  • Monitor offloading pace at company warehouses and customer locations, prioritizing shipments as needed.
  • Document carrier performance in support of departmental KPI tracking.
  • Seek out and develop partnerships with service providers to drive cost savings and efficiencies.
  • Participate in QBRs with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers.
  • Support RFQ/RFP processes for freight services
  • Proactively identify and mitigate potential supply chain disruptions, executing recovery plans when required.
  • Manage cost savings projects related to the assigned scope of work.
  • Stay current on current industry news and best practices related to Nokian Tyres and our business environment.
  • Uphold Nokian Tyres mission and values, and demonstrate supporting behaviors in day-to-day actions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Transportation/Logistics, Operations, or equivalent required
  • Minimum five years experience in logistics, with 2 of those years focused in international transportation
  • Understanding of US and Canadian Customs processes and regulations
  • Strong working knowledge of ocean transportation, drayage, full truckload, rail intermodal
  • Experience with ERP, WMS, and TMS is preferred.
  • Advanced level proficiency in MS Excel
  • Ability to work well in a matrixed team environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Lean/process improvement tools experience and interest in advancing applied knowledge in this area.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States - this position will not offer relocation or visa sponsorship.
  • Must live within commuting distance to Factory (Dayton, TN).
  • Strong preference to have extensive International (Ocean Freight) experience.
