About this position

We are looking for a highly skilled Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles to support the production of high-precision parts and components. As a Machine Shop Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the setup, operation, and optimization of machinery, ensuring quality control, and providing technical support for manufacturing operations.


Process Engineering & Optimization:

  • Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for machining operations, including milling, turning, drilling, and grinding.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to current processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve quality.
  • Select appropriate materials, tools, and machinery for production based on design specifications and product requirements.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting:

  • Provide technical support to machinists and operators to ensure smooth production runs.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and resolve problems related to tooling, setup, and machine performance.
  • Work closely with the maintenance team to ensure proper maintenance and repair of machines to minimize downtime.

CAD/CAM Programming & Design:

  • Use CAD and CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam, or similar) to create part models, toolpaths, and detailed machining instructions for CNC machines.
  • Develop and modify CNC programs for complex parts based on engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure that designs are manufacturable and meet tolerance requirements.

Quality Control & Inspection:

  • Ensure that machined parts meet dimensional specifications and quality standards using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM).
  • Develop and implement inspection plans to ensure product quality and compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of defects and non-conformances, and implement corrective actions.

Project Management & Coordination:

  • Coordinate with production teams, including operators and machine setup personnel, to ensure timely and accurate production.
  • Monitor project timelines and progress, ensuring that engineering and machining tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Support cost estimation and budget management for machining operations and projects.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of machine setup, tooling, production data, and process improvements.
  • Prepare and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for machine operations and safety.
  • Provide regular reports on production efficiency, machine performance, and quality control metrics to management.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure that all machining operations are conducted in accordance with company safety protocols and industry regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment by ensuring all safety procedures are followed and that machinery is operated correctly.
  • Conduct safety audits and assist in training staff on machine shop safety procedures and best practices.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CNC programming, machining certifications) are a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a machine shop environment, with a strong background in CNC machining, manual machining, or related manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience with CNC machines, milling machines, lathes, grinders, and other precision machining equipment.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam, Siemens NX) and CNC programming.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and materials.
  • Proficient in technical problem-solving and troubleshooting of machining operations.
  • Experience in using precision measurement instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, height gauges, CMM).
  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing quality control processes and standards.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100) and safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with machine operators, engineers, and management.

Optional but preferred:

  • CNC Programming and Operation certification.
  • Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other process improvement certifications.
  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, Firearms or precision manufacturing industries.
  • Experience working with multi-axis CNC machines, robotics, or automation systems in a manufacturing setting.
  • Knowledge of ERP or MRP systems for production scheduling and inventory management.
  • Experience in managing or leading teams in a production environment.
