ATA Services, Inc. is currently seeking to hire an experienced Paralegal to work in a temporary position with the State of New Mexico - Office of Broadband Access and Expansion.
- Pay Rate: $40.00
- Start Date: ASAP
- Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Office Location: Albuquerque, NM
Job Duties:
- This position works under the direct guidance of attorney(s) and takes a leading role in all pending legal matters.
- This position routinely drafts documents and manages paper and electronic files.
- The paralegal will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and filing pleadings, preparing exhibit books/exhibit and witness lists, and assisting with requesting and responding to discovery in legal matters pending in state/federal court and administrative hearings.
- The paralegal will create database tracking systems for all legal files, responding to federal reporting requirements and retention of legal files.
- The paralegal will track and schedule all court and administrative deadlines for all legal-related matters.
- The paralegal will organize, coordinate and schedule meetings for attorneys, coordinate and schedule pre-hearing conferences with parties and hearing officers, and coordinate and schedule legal services such as transcription services for hearings.
- The paralegal will assist attorneys with legal research and preparing witnesses for hearings.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- Associate degree in paralegal studies, a paralegal certificate, or a bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 1-5 years of experience as an administrative assistant (preferably in a law firm or in a corporate legal department), legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegal
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and professional demeanor
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to work independently, manage large workloads, and keep deadlines
- MS Office applications – Word, Excel
- Prepare legal documents, legal correspondence, and organize and maintain documents in paper or electronic filing system.
- Prepare legal documents, including briefs, pleadings, appeals, wills, contracts, and real estate closing statements.
- Document management tasks such as organizing exhibits.
- File pleadings with court clerk.
- Work with outside businesses for delivery of subpoenas and other documents
- Work with computers, copiers, printers
- Answer phones and transfer to staff/attorneys
- Schedule meetings and keep calendar for attorneys
- Provide general administrative assistance to attorneys
