Under the supervision of the Director of Programs, the Specialty Court Coordinator will oversee the specialty court component of the Dixie Reinvestment Grant. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing mental health court services in Dixie County, creating community partnerships that support the initiative, and generating reports regarding the status of the required grant deliverables.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Works to develop and implement Mental Health Court services for Dixie County
- Actively participates in the Dixie County Criminal Justice, Mental Health, and Substance Abuse Reinvestment Grant
- This position will provide care coordination for youth, adults, and families suffering from mental health and/or substance use issues.
- Encourage patient participation, identify barriers to treatment, and work with a larger treatment team to eliminate barriers to care.
- Provide appropriate linkages, referrals, coordination, and follow-up to services and supports, including referrals and linkages to long-term services and supports.
- Provide/assist with health care appointment scheduling for mental health and substance use issues.
- Identifies barriers to discharge and a plan to address them and ensure a successful completion of services.
- Obtains collateral information and collaborates with clients’ families, support systems, outside providers, and involved agencies regarding progress in treatment and continuity of care.
- Serve as a community educator by providing mental health information to relevant individuals, organizations, and groups.
- Work closely with community resources and organizations in coordinating client services in the Dixie County area.
- Advocate for patients who may be vulnerable or need additional support.
- Complete, organize, and file all documentation as required on time.
- Complete program tracking report for program participants during their involvement in mental health court and for a minimum of six months after discharge.
- Ensure releases of information and other required documents are completed and filed.
- Attend provider team meetings to promote collaboration of service and treatment providers.
- Provide direct consultation to the Judges on any cases involved in Mental Health Court
- Maintain a caseload of defendants under court supervision and monitor for compliance with all conditions of release.
- Attending all relevant court sessions or hearings.
- Screening and calendaring cases; notifying all parties of dates and times.
- Serve as liaison between the court, attorneys, the Department of Children and Families, Meridian Behavioral Healthcare, Inc., State Forensic Facilities, and community treatment providers.
- Assisting the court with scheduling of outpatient appointments for evaluations.
- Performs related work as required.
- Completes all agency and department-required training.
Requirements and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree, (preferably in social work, mental health, or human services-related field) or equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience.
- A minimum of three years of experience in mental or behavioral health, criminal justice, and /or customer service.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, and access to a reliable automobile to be used for work purposes.
- Able to work extended or weekend hours, as needed.
- Must live within a ½ hour driving distance to Dixie County.
- Applicants who are currently in recovery from past substance use issues must be successfully rehabilitated and no longer engaging in the use of illegal substances to be eligible for this position. Hanley Foundation generally requires applicants in recovery to have had at least two years of uninterrupted sobriety to meet this eligibility standard. Exceptions to this two-year sobriety requirement may be granted on a case-by-case basis if extenuating circumstances exist to warrant such an exception. Any questions should be addressed to the COO.
